Jesus Himself honored the Sabbath faithfully: “And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up for to read.” (Luke 4:16)
“And woe unto them that are with child, and to them that give suck in those days!
But pray ye that your flight be not in the winter, neither on the sabbath day:
For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be.”
This reference highlights the continued significance of the Sabbath even decades after Christ’s earthly ministry, while warning believers about the coming tribulation and destruction. Jesus Himself also rested in the tomb on the Sabbath after completing the work of redemption, just as He rested on the seventh day after finishing the work of creation.
